Doors to Lakeshore’s Atlas Tube Centre Now Open

By Government of Canada
December 13, 2014

Residents of Lakeshore are celebrating the fact that they have new opportunities to get fit and stay active thanks to the opening of phase one of the Atlas Tube Centre, formerly known as the Multi-Use Recreation Facility (MURF). Representatives from the federal and municipal governments joined the community today at the Centre’s official grand opening event.

The new athletic complex, which includes an arena with three ice pads, a gymnasium, dance studio and an indoor walking track, encourages healthy living, while the library, meeting rooms and banquet hall will help bring the community together. Future construction will include an aquatic centre, splash pad, recreational courts and a five-kilometre, multi-purpose trail for walking, running, cycling and skateboarding.

Lakeshore’s Atlas Tube Centre is a modern recreational, social and cultural facility that has something for everyone. It will provide its visitors access to high-quality physical activities and social gatherings for decades to come.

Our Government is proud to provide significant funding for this project as we focus on creating jobs, promoting growth and building strong, prosperous communities across Canada. One way we are doing so is through our $53-billion New Building Canada Plan, which is designed to support infrastructure projects of national, regional and local significance.”
– Jeff Watson, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Essex, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec

“The Town of Lakeshore is grateful for the support of our Government, without which we would not have been able to build such a comprehensive facility that addresses the numerous recreational needs of our residents. The Atlas Tube Centre will keep our residents in motion for many years.”
