Healthcare building

Healthcare and Research

Healthcare and research facilities are a specialized field within construction. General contractors must be able to demonstrate knowledge of infection prevention and control processes.

They must understand the sophisticated mechanical systems used in healthcare and laboratory facilities, including special gas units, piping, building automation systems (BAS), HVAC, and electrical systems like special intercoms, electrical codes, overcurrent protection systems and circuit breakers. Hospitals never sleep, so they must also have experience working in facilities that remain in operation while construction is underway.
