The Rouge Valley Community Recreation Centre is a 94,000 sf. multi-level civic facility constructed within Joyce Trimmer Park in Toronto. Aquicon managed the delivery of this highly technical project, which brings together a below-grade aquatic centre, fitness and wellness areas, multi-purpose community spaces, and a dedicated childcare centre within a compact and carefully coordinated building form.

A key complexity of the project was the integration of major recreation functions across multiple levels while maintaining efficient circulation, long-term durability, and high building performance. Construction required close coordination of the structural frame, mechanical systems, and building envelope, particularly around the aquatic areas and other high-demand interior spaces. High-performance insulation, advanced air and moisture barriers, efficient electrified mechanical systems, and integrated solar photovoltaic panels were all incorporated to support the building’s low-carbon strategy and Zero Carbon performance objectives.

The completed facility combines aquatics, recreation, childcare, and flexible program space within a high-performance civic building designed for long-term operational efficiency, and stands as the first building in Ontario to achieve CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Certification.
